Claire Ashworth came to architecture through art. Before earning her Bachelor of Architecture at Arizona State University, she spent three years studying painting and sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, an experience that permanently shaped how she sees space, light, and material. Where a conventionally trained designer might begin with floor plans and square footage, Claire begins with questions about atmosphere: how a room should feel at dawn versus dusk, what emotional response a material provokes when touched, how the sound of a space changes as you move through it.
This sensibility has become the defining quality of Ashworth Custom Homes’ design work. Claire leads the creative vision for every project, working closely with clients during an intensive discovery process that goes far beyond selecting finishes. She studies how families actually inhabit their spaces, observing patterns of movement, gathering, and solitude that inform spatial relationships no questionnaire could capture. The homes that emerge from this process feel deeply personal, as though they have been tailored to their owners with the same precision a master tailor brings to a bespoke suit.
Her obsession with materials is legendary within the firm. Claire maintains an extensive library of stone, wood, metal, and textile samples, and she insists on seeing every significant material in situ before specifying it. She has been known to visit quarries in three countries to find the right stone for a single fireplace surround. This rigor ensures that Ashworth homes achieve a material coherence that photographs cannot fully convey but that visitors immediately sense upon crossing the threshold.
Claire’s expertise in indoor-outdoor integration draws directly from the desert context. She designs transitions between interior and exterior spaces with the same care she brings to the interior rooms themselves, understanding that in the Sonoran Desert, the landscape is not a backdrop but a full participant in the living experience. Her work has been featured in Luxe Interiors + Design, Arizona Architecture, and Modern Luxury Scottsdale.
